Tata has recently launched the much-anticipated Altroz facelift, showcasing a more refined design and an upgraded interior. This new model is set to compete with popular vehicles such as the Hyundai i20, Toyota Glanza, and Maruti Suzuki Baleno. Below is a detailed comparison of these cars within the same segment.
The pricing strategy for the Altroz is quite competitive, starting at Rs 6.89 lakh, which is approximately Rs 24,000 less than its rivals. The Glanza's base model is priced at Rs 6.90 lakh, while the Baleno takes the lead in affordability with a starting price of Rs 6.70 lakh. The i20 remains the most expensive option, with its base variant retailing at Rs 7.04 lakh.
When looking at the top-spec variants, the Baleno emerges as the most budget-friendly choice at Rs 9.92 lakh for the Alpha Automatic variant. The Glanza V AMT variant is priced at Rs 10 lakh, while the Altroz's top variant costs Rs 11.49 lakh. The Hyundai N Line is the priciest, at Rs 12.56 lakh.
Powertrain Options and Performance
The Altroz facelift offers a significant advantage over its competitors with its diverse powertrain options, including petrol, diesel, and CNG variants. Unlike many rivals, Tata continues to provide a diesel engine option. In terms of power output, the Baleno and Glanza outperform the Altroz, which delivers 88 HP, while the Hyundai i20 follows closely with 83 HP. Torque figures are competitive, with the Altroz achieving 115 Nm, just ahead of the i20's 114.7 Nm and the Baleno's 113 Nm.
Hyundai's i20 also offers N Line variants, featuring a 1.0-liter turbo petrol engine that produces 120 HP and 172 Nm of peak torque. Although the previous Altroz racer had similar performance metrics, it is currently unavailable, leading to speculation that Tata may reintroduce a sporty variant in the future.
Transmission Options for Altroz and i20
The Tata Altroz provides a variety of transmission options, including a 5-speed manual, a 6-speed AMT, and a 6-speed DCT. In comparison, the Hyundai i20 offers a CVT auto, a 6-speed manual, and a 7-speed DCT. Both the Baleno and Glanza come with a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT.
